Hi! I’m Karli Turnipseed. The confident doula and confident mother
Why am I so confident you ask? Well, for starters, I’m pretty damn good at what I do. My resolve to bridge the gap between parents and children; doctors and patients; and doulas and clients started in 2004. I’ve poured countless hours into studying, meeting, and understanding the needs of families from various socio-economic circles. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life it’s that the “ideal birth” and “good parenting” are largely subjective.
My number one job is to understand.
Understand your needs.
Understand your preferences.
Understand your boundaries.
Understand your values.
As an autistic person, I’m uniquely equipped to handle the emotional needs of the parents and children I serve. I help parents to understand and respond to their children’s emotional needs while processing their own. I bring this skill with me into the labor and postpartum experience by helping to reduce external stressors and alleviate fear and uncertainty by replacing it with confidence and self awareness. I understand the unique challenges neurodiverse families face and am here to bring a sense of peace, balance, and normalcy to your home.
As a doula, a teacher, and a parent I am passionate about empathizing with the point of view of others.
A question I get asked commonly by clients is, “what is your birth philosophy?” The truth is, I don’t have one. If I did have one, it would only be relevant to myself and my experience and so it would be inappropriate to share in a professional setting.
My job as a doula is to ask clarifying questions, remain culturally competent, share needed information, and accommodate you, your philosophy, and your values.
Follow My Journey
Some of the things I’m most proud of in my personal life are my marriage, my three children, my business, my teaching achievements, and my heart for social justice. My goal is to continue to grow as a person and as a doula by providing services to communities in need, amplifying minority voices, opening an accessible school, and continuing to grow my family and my company.
I love building community both in person and virtually. I would be honored to continue to expand my online family by be followed on my social media accounts. Connecting families, heart felt discussions, and a daily dose of humor is what I live for!
